Tutoring Services

The University of Arkansas Student Support Services (SSS) program provides one-on-one tutoring appointments for "High Demand" classes to SSS Participants at their request. The tutors are trained to work with any student regardless of background, academic proficiency, and learning style.

One-on-one peer tutoring appointments for SSS Participants are conducted in the Enhanced Learning Center located at the garden level of Gregson Hall. Students can sign up for one-on-one tutoring when they visit with their Student Development Specialist (SDS) or by contacting the SSS office at 479-575-3546.

In the event that SSS Tutor availability conflicts with your current schedule, tutoring opportunities are also available to all UA students through Enhanced Learning Center.

Tutoring Rules

Student Support Services would like to ensure that you benefit from its tutorial services. To guarantee equality of services, initial one-hour tutoring appointments will be scheduled by your Student Development Specialist based on tutor/subject availability. Beyond that initial appointment, it will be your responsibility to schedule future appointments with your tutor. Each SSS Participant is eligible for 3 hours of tutoring per week and appointments can be scheduled no further than two weeks in advance of the current date.

Participants are expected to attend all tutoring sessions. However, as soon as you know if you need to cancel a session or if you will be late, call or email the SSS office at (479) 575-3546. PLEASE DO NOT CALL YOUR SDS. If no one answers the phone, please leave a message.

Two absences will result in your tutoring being immediately terminated, until you have had a conference with your SDS. Upon receiving the notice of a second absence from your tutor, your SDS will email or call you to set up a conference time. During this conference, you and your SDS will discuss the decision to resume or discontinue your tutoring. Your SDS will use his or her discretion to determine whether discontinuation or resumption of tutoring is appropriate.

SSS participants can avoid an absence by contacting the SSS Office at least two hours before your scheduled appointment time and rescheduling the appointment!!

SSS participants are expected to come to the tutoring session prepared, and having had attempted to do your homework. Have problem areas or areas of difficulty ready to discuss with the tutor. You are expected to attend tutoring sessions even if you feel you do not have material to be covered. You can cover material in the next section or chapter, or review a previous unit.
